Red postboxes and telephone box trend to end?

Red postboxes are very often considered to be classic iconic images of Britain. However this traditional trend may soon be coming to an end in one village in North Devon.



Postboxes painted red also hail alongside the traditional red double-decker bus and red telephone box. However, although there are no plans to get rid of the red post box, one parish council may soon get rid of its red phone box.



A North Devon village has been struggling to come up with ideas of what it should do with its out-of-use phone box.



Parish councillors in the village have come up with a few options of what it should do with the phone box, situated on Filleigh triangle.



The first option is to paint the box blue, removing traces of the iconic red phone box. Another option currently being considered is to allow advertising company, Bray Leino to use it for advertising purposes. The final option would be to see the box adopted by BT and used as a more traditional phone kiosk.



With these considerations, the box could either be completely removed or left with no working phone line, to act as an iconic image and landmark for the area.



According to an article on website thisisdevon.co.uk, if Bray Leino was to take over the running of the box, there would be a possibility that a telephone line would be reinstalled along with a Wi-Fi connection.



Speaking to the website, one of the village’s residents, Chris Grasske is in support of the company taking over the box.



He said: "I think it would be brilliant if Bray Leino put wi-fi in, especially if it means we keep a working phone."



The decision is due to be made at a parish council meeting in the coming weeks.
