The aim of any advertising campaign is to attract the right sort of people to your brand. Targeting that demographic, however, is not as easy as it might initially seem. Whilst you may know exactly the sort of images and ‘buzzwords’ that are going to attract the attention of those you wish to tantalise (although this in itself is never an easy job), making sure the right people see your advertising campaigns is a whole different kettle of proverbial fish.
One of the biggest problems is that, no matter where you place your adverts, play your radio jingles or post your flyers, the hit rate will still be far less than you might like. Even when targeting specific areas due to level of affluence or political leanings (and very few companies will go to such lengths), there will still be many people seeing your adverts who simply won’t be interested whilst many people who would be interested will simply not be getting to hear about you.
Aside from the multinational corporations with huge budgets to blow on campaigns that almost anyone would struggle to miss, there either has to be a certain acceptance that hit rates may be surprising low, or a certain structure put in place to making the most out of all campaigns.
One of the easiest types of promotional campaigns to focus on is one which involves giving away promotional products. With flyers for instance, very few people may want to take them as we are all inundated with so many useless ones, that we would rather miss something interesting than be bogged down by a seemingly infinite number of leaflets that hold no interest for us. On the other hand, giving away such gifts will mean that you can very much target those people who will be interested in the products you sell or the services you offer by making sure that the promotional items you offer appeal to the same demographic.
For instance, if you are trying to appeal to a younger, technologically savvy crowd, having your brand name put onto passes for free regular music downloads, USB sticks or even skate wear may be the best way to ensure that the people who take such gifts will in fact want to buy the things you have to offer. The same goes for any industry, with such promotional items offering a huge amount of scope for you to be able to totally focus them toward a specific kind of person.
To further the success of such tactics, staging certain events that will attract the demographic you are aiming for will ensure that you have a huge range of that target market all in one place, where you can furnish them with products which will help them remember your name for a long time to come, rather than just for a short period of time.
The other benefits of using promotional products to target an audience is that not only do you get those people who are interested in your products to remember you, but you will also have them doing your advertising for you, using or wearing your products around friends who will in all likeliness have similar interests and therefore may well need your company too.
